Nigeria’s cultural landmark in Iganmu, reopened as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.

Nestled in the heart of Lagos, the National Theatre stands as a proud symbol of Nigeria’s cultural renaissance. Since its inception it has served as a vibrant hub for artistic expression, historic gatherings and creative excellence. Built for FESTAC ’77 and shaped like a military cap, the building reopened after a full restoration and was renamed in honour of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. Its grounds also host the National Troupe of Nigeria, the National Council for Arts and Culture, the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization, and the National Gallery of Art. Performances, festivals and summits run through the year. Upcoming dates are listed separately on this site.
